Effective January 1, 2023, the NDFA will move to a regional test site format. This move has come at the end of many months of discussion by the Executive Board and current and former certification testers.
Fire departments will be able to select the test site they wish to have their members attend and will be able to schedule their training to coincide with the closest test site. This will also allow individuals who are preparing for certification on their own, without the assistance of their department, to select a test site that is convenient for them.
Each region will have two test sites annually. Departments interested in hosting a regional test site can request a copy of the host site requirements by contacting the NDFA office.
Initial testing at a regional test site will continue to be offered free of charge. All retests, written and skills, will be charged a fee following the approved fee schedule in the NDFA Certification Policy Manual.
Departments may still request a test site for their department for a fee. For more information on the cost of these department-level tests please refer to the fee schedule located in the NDFA Certification Policy Manual.
