Drivers License Mobile Identification System

Mobile Identification System

The North Dakota Mobile Driver License (mDL) is an innovative, secure, and user-friendly solution designed to provide a modern way to share your driver's license. With a focus on ease of use, the mDL facilitates touchless transactions, offers selective release of information, and enhances the protection of your personal data. It empowers you to have complete control over how your information is shared, ensuring a seamless and secure experience wherever you go.

While the mDL is a convenient option, it remains entirely voluntary. The North Dakota Department of Transportation will continue to issue physical, traditional driver's licenses and ID cards to all North Dakota residents. As awareness and adoption of the mDL continue to grow, it is highly recommended that you carry your physical ID alongside your mobile ID, especially as some systems may still not be fully integrated with this new technology. Many businesses may not yet accept the mobile version for official purposes.

Currently, the mDL is authorized for limited use, with a growing number of participating airports across the United States enabling travelers to use their mobile IDs for a more streamlined travel experience. As the mDL becomes more widely accepted, more locations will begin supporting its use.

Your privacy is a top priority. The mDL does not track your usage, and no data is transmitted from your device without your explicit consent. This system is designed to provide a secure, accurate proof of identity, reducing the risk of fraud and protecting you from identity theft.

The North Dakota Mobile ID is exclusively available to individuals who hold a current, valid North Dakota-issued driver's license or ID card.
